DESCRIPTION: EPW - Mermod, Jaccard & Co, St Louis, Swiss rare split-seconds chronograph with 30 minute register and constant seconds, 52mm, heavy 18K original Becker HC with gold cuvette in addition to glazed observation cover over mvt, SW-LS, WED with sunken seconds and register, lever escapement, at least 17J, fausses-côtes NI damascene, s#63343. The ébauche was made by "Lecoultre & Cie" (note the lower case "c"), a factory founded at Le Sentier in 1849 by Charles Antoine Lecoultre, who invented the first automated pinion cutter in 1823. Some of these carry the Lecoultre & Cie signature directly, while others bear names of various famous makers. Gross weight of assembled watch 98.4 dwt (152.8 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, chronograph function is inconsistent, primary chronograph occasionally fails to engage and at other times the hands drift when stopping, split hand functioning properly, minute register is not functioning, excellent mvt condition overall, some MFS, some oxide on outer portion of chronograph mechanism steelwork; dial with short hls at center to registers above and below hands; hands near mint purple, except for the absence of the split-seconds-tail; case shows light wear, typical MFS, some light dents or dings in both covers; bow tight, little worn, crown shows medium wear with small ridge break; good glass crystals.
